The Blue Winged Kookaburra is actually a large species of Kingfisher native to North Australia and New Guinea! They eat a range of insects, reptiles, amphibians, fish, crayfish, scorpions, spiders, snakes, small mammals and even other birds!

Diamond Doves are small Australian birds, at around 20 cm (7.8 in), they live in grasslands and feed almost entirely on seeds grasses.

The Bush Stone Curlew is a large ground dwelling bird native to Australia, it prefers open plains and woodlands where it stalks slowly at night for insects. It is capable of flight but relies on camouflage mostly. Both parents care for two eggs laid on bare ground usually near a bush or fallen branch. They are roughly 54 - 59 cm (21 - 23 in) and are not endangered, but have a decreasing population.

The Southern Cassowary is a large flightless bird native to Australia, Indonesia, and New Guinea with a population of 4,000 and declining. The male Cassowary not only builds the nest, but also incubates the eggs and raises the chicks alone. Cassowaries have a reputation of being dangerous and aggressive to humans and animals, using their powerful legs and sharp beak to attack. The horn-like structure on their head is called a casque. It has a honeycombed, spongy structure and connects to the ear canals, it is believed to be an amplifier or receiver for the bird's low frequency vocalisations. Females are slightly larger than males and can grow up to 170 cm (5.5 ft)

Chattering Lorikeets are native to Indonesia, at roughly 30 cm (12 in) in size, it is forest dwelling and vulnerable due to trapping for the caged bird market. They mainly eat fruit, seeds, buds, unripe nectar, and pollen.

Palm Cockatoos, also known as Goliath Cockatoos or Great Black Cockatoos are native to New Guinea and Australia. They are 55 - 60 cm (22 - 24 in) long, and weigh 0.9 - 1.2 kg (2.01 - 2.65 lb). They are one of the largest species of cockatoo and parrot in Australia with the second largest beak of any parrot in the world!

Male Indian Peafowls are called Peacocks, whereas females are called Peahens and the chicks are called Peachicks! They are native to both India and Sri Lanka. Peafowl species (especially Indian Peafowls) have been seen in Christianity, Judaism, Ancient Greece, Yazidism, and Hinduism as symbols of gods/goddesses, divine beings, and legends.

Tree Kangaroos are marsupials that inhabit the tropical rainforests of New Guinea as well as northern Queensland in Australia. Tree Kangaroos are considered threatened due to hunting and habitat destruction. Australian Tree Kangaroos eat leaves, grains, flowers, nuts, sap, and tree bark, however, Some captive New Guinea Tree Kangaroos also eat eggs, birds and snakes.

Gibbons are a type of ape that (unlike most great apes) often form long term pair bonds. They can swing between branches at distances of 15 m (50 ft) at speeds as fast as 55 km/h (34 mph), they are the fastest of all tree dwelling, non-flying mammals! Their status ranges from endangered to critically endangered for most species.

The Gouldian Finch is a small native Australian bird between 12-14cm (4.7-5.5in), with either black, yellow, or red heads, with the males having dark purple chests and the females having light purple chests. They are endangered and only found in small regions near the coast of northern Australia, with a current population of roughly 2,500.

Mandrills are a large old-world monkey native to west central Africa, and is considered one of the most colourful mammals in the world with distinctive red and blue skin on its face. It is the largest monkey in the world, and lives primarily in tropical rainforests, but will travel across savannas.

Red Pandas are spread across Nepal, India, Bhutan, Myanmar and China, and are difficult to observe in the wild. They are mainly herbivores, feeding primarily on bamboo, but also eat eggs, as well as small birds and mammals! Red Pandas have been listed as Endangered since 2008 due to deforestation and poaching.

The Sumatran Tiger is one of the six surviving tiger species, with three species being officially extinct. Sumatran Tigers are one of the smallest tigers, have darker fur, and broader stripes than any other existing tiger species. Unfortunately this tiger is critically endangered, with fewer than 400 of them left in the wild.

This species of Zebra Finch can be found in arid regions of Australia and was once considered the same species as the Indonesian Zebra Finch. They were only considered two distinct species in 1837!

The Rose Crowned Fruit Dove is a native Australian bird found in the lowland rainforests of northern and eastern Australia, fortunately, this dove is listed as "Least Concern" on the IUCN Red list of threatened species. You can visit this bird for yourself at many Zoos across Australia, or possibly in your own backyard!
